YOUTH LIFE OWNERSHIP – PILOT In July 2006, Liveworks’ proposal to MCYS to form a not for profit organisation in YLO will train youths from neighbourhood schools, age 14-17, to own the decisions they make in their lives starting from their teenage days. YLO will provide information and guidance to these young people from neighbourhood schools to aspire for the highest in their lives and to work towards that. Decisions in life can mean trade-offs, determination, focus and life-long learning as an underlying principle. In June 2006, two trainers from Liveworks – Ms Norma Sit and Mr Tan Puay Hiang – used the COMPASS DIRECTIONS programme to train about 600 young people over Singapore June School Holidays. Both feel it is a deep privilege to be given an opportunity to guide the young in their journeys towards adulthood. Besides MCYS, YLO is supported by the Singapore Women Business Connection and the Rotary Club of Suntec City. |
| YOUTH LIFE OWNERSHIP - MENTOR PROGRAMME YLO implemented a mentor-mentee programme in 2006, bringing together senior professionals from banks, IT and Consulting firms as well as business owners to give time and energy to a group of young people selected from the earlier COMPASS trained batch. About 8-10% of the youths trained were selected for the mentor-mentee programme. The programme was a success. Both Mentors and Mentees learnt from each other. For many mentors, it was a very rewarding experience. For the mentees, it was eye-opening to be mentored. Enquiries, please write to: |
| 2007 CINDERELLA’S COMPASS
In March 2007, Ms Norma Sit and Ms Karen Tan piloted a programme under MCYS to inspire, motivate, train and recharge a group of older women to take charge of their lives and to reenter the job market with energy, dynamism and renewed vision. Cinderella’s Compass was much appreciated by the women who felt they each benefitted from the programme. Norma and Karen intend to bring in more women who are willing to share with other women, to empower each other on lifelong learning journeys as each take on challenges for personal growth. |
